What Does a Well Water Pressure Tank Do?

A properly sized and maintained pressure tank is essential to your well water system. It stores pressurized water for immediate use, reduces wear on your pump by preventing constant cycling, and ensures consistent water pressure throughout your home. Whether you need a new installation, repairs to an existing tank, or a complete system upgrade, our certified technicians handle every detail.

Pressure tanks for well water work by storing water under pressure, so your pump doesn't have to cycle on and off every time you open a faucet. When your well pump runs, it fills the tank and compresses the air inside - either through a bladder or diaphragm - building pressure between a set cut-in and cut-out range. As you use water, the compressed air pushes it through your plumbing until the pressure drops low enough to trigger the pump again. This cycle protects your pump from overworking, extends its lifespan, and delivers steady, consistent water pressure throughout your home.

They did a great job and I highly recommend them if you need something done.

Book Your Consultation

Bladder Tank Installations We supply and install standard residential well water bladder tanks to store pressurized water for immediate use.

Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) Constant Pressure Systems We configure specialized, space-saving stainless steel pressure tanks designed exclusively to pair with VFD constant-speed pump systems.

Control Box & Electrical Component Integration We install and wire vital tank infrastructure, including electrical pressure switches, control boxes, and integrated digital pump drives.

Freeze Protection Upgrades We apply specialized heat tape to vulnerable tank lines and exposed plumbing pipes to provide cold-weather freeze protection and prevent winter ruptures.

Air Charge Calibration & Maintenance We service waterlogged or short-cycling systems by measuring pre-charge pressures with calibrated gauges, restoring standard air balances, and replacing damaged internal bladders.

Well Water Pressure Tank FAQ

Common questions answered - your system specifics are best discussed in a consultation.

How do I know if my pressure tank needs replacement?

A failing pressure tank usually shows clear symptoms before it stops working entirely. Watch for these common warning signs:

  • Water spitting or sputtering from faucets, which often signals a waterlogged tank or ruptured bladder
  • Rapid or frequent pump cycling (short-cycling), which wears out your pump prematurely
  • Low or inconsistent water pressure throughout the home
  • Visible rust, corrosion, or moisture on the exterior of the tank
  • A tank that feels completely full of water when tapped (no air cushion remaining)

Our technicians can diagnose the exact cause and advise whether a repair or a full replacement is the more cost-effective solution.

What's the difference between a bladder tank and other types?

The main difference comes down to how each tank separates air from water and how it maintains pressure. A bladder tank uses a sealed internal rubber bladder that keeps the pressurized air completely separate from your water supply, which prevents waterlogging and delivers consistent, steady pressure. Older-style tanks without a bladder allow air and water to mix directly, which causes them to become waterlogged over time and require frequent recharging.

VFD (variable frequency drive) constant-pressure systems take a different approach altogether - they pair a small tank with a variable-speed pump that adjusts output on demand, delivering near-perfect pressure with greater energy efficiency.

Can you install a pressure tank in a tight space?

Yes. Limited space is one of the most common challenges we solve. For properties with cramped utility rooms, crawl spaces, or no dedicated equipment area, we offer compact in-well stainless steel tank configurations that install directly inside the well shaft rather than taking up room indoors.

We can also recommend low-profile bladder tanks or VFD constant-pressure systems, which require a much smaller footprint than traditional tanks while still delivering full performance.

Do you have well water pressure tanks for high-volume properties

Absolutely. For large residential estates, multi-family housing, agricultural operations, and other high-demand properties, we supply and install certified American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) pressure vessels built to your specific system requirements. These heavy-duty tanks are engineered for higher pressure ratings and greater storage capacity, and we size them precisely to match your peak water demand so pressure stays consistent even during periods of heavy simultaneous use.

What warranty comes with a new pressure tank?

We stand behind every installation with warranty coverage that goes well beyond the industry standard:

  • 5- to 7-year replacement warranties on newly installed tanks - far longer than the typical 1-year manufacturer warranty
  • Coverage that protects against premature bladder failure and tank defects
  • Optional extended service plans for ongoing maintenance and priority support

We'll walk you through exactly what your specific tank and installation include before any work begins.

Do you service and repair existing tanks?

Yes - repairs and maintenance are a core part of what we do. Our service work includes:

  • Diagnosing and correcting air charge (pre-charge pressure) problems on waterlogged or short-cycling tanks
  • Replacing worn or ruptured internal bladders
  • Upgrading pressure switches, control boxes, and other electrical components
  • Performing preventive maintenance to extend the life of your existing tank

Whenever possible, we'll repair and optimize your current system before recommending a full replacement.
